Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

Sometimes a game can appear to be headed towards a loss, leaving the entire fan base resigned and quiet. Then, within 45 seconds, two hustle plays completely shift the momentum in their favor. Naturally, the fan base watching goes wild. This exact scenario unfolded today at Madison Square Garden as the New York Knicks secured a victory against the Philadelphia 76ers with two decisive plays at the end of the game.

With 47 seconds left, the Knicks grabbed a rebound and Jalen Brunson scored a 3-pointer that brought the game to a 2-point deficit. The Knicks then pressured the 76ers on the in-bounds pass to knock the ball out of Tyrese Maxey‘s hands and pass to Donte DiVincenzo.

After he missed his first 3-pointer, the Knicks hustled and got the ball back to him again, where he made a three to lead by 1 point. On the 76ers next possession, Isaiah Hartenstein blocked Tyrese Maxey’s layup, putting the Knicks in control.

On the last possession the Joel Embiid tried to tie the game, but his long-range attempt was futile. This series of plays ensured the New York Knicks to take a 2-game lead in the playoff series. No wonder the crowd was going wild, and the noise led to the commentators suggesting that the Madison Square Garden was shaking.

How else can one describe when almost 20,000 fans let out their feelings from watching their team potentially losing the game to winning in 45 seconds? The New York Knicks fans will be excited as the series moves to Philadelphia for the next 2 games.

Much doubted New York Knicks now favorites

As the New York Knicks approached the end of their regular season, many were questioning if they could keep up their form. They proved their doubters wrong by snatching second place in the East on the final day of the season. Even then, analysts doubted if they could last in the playoffs, citing fatigue could kick in soon.

So much so that most analysts were bullish on the Philadelphia 76ers to win the series easily. Obviously, the concern of Joel Embiid’s knee was the kicker. However, in today’s game, the reigning league MVP produced at his usual elite level. Unfortunately, he was denied the win by the hustle and passion of the younger Knicks players.

Now, the tide has tilted to favor the Knicks as they head into Philadelphia. The pressure is now on the 76ers to ensure their season does not end in the 1st round.
