10 potential undrafted free agents to watch for the Lions after the 2024 NFL Draft
SCOTT CLAUSE/USA TODAY Network / USA TODAY NETWORK

The 2024 NFL Draft is next week and it's going to be a blast in downtown Detroit. The Lions currently have seven draft picks, until Brad Holmes picks up the phone that is, and everyone is eager to find out who the team picks.

On Saturday things are going to be moving very fast. The picks are going to fly off the board with a shorter allotted time for each team, but what's going to fly even faster is going to be undrafted free agents that get signed right after the draft.

With that being said, I've worked up a little list of players for both readers and myself to refer to. These are 10 players that I will be keeping my eyes peeled for to find out where they wind up and if any of them wind up in Detroit. Let's jump into it.

I'm a big fan of the story here. The guy has overcome every single obstacle in his way to get to this point. The losses of his brother, grandfather and father, a speech impediment, getting no offers, walking on at McNeese State, heading to Marshall and then getting a chance to play in the SEC at LSU. If he doesn't get drafted, that's another thing he'll likely overcome. I believe grit is the word that best fits him and the Lions love grit.

I don't think I was alone in thinking that Bradley was the best quarterback at the Senior Bowl during practices. He was sharp and on point a lot of the time and got the ball out fast. There's a good chance that he still doesn't get drafted though.

If he doesn't, the Lions could bring him in to work on the practice squad and maybe you see what you have down the road. He could be a solid backup. At worst he could be the Lions next David Blough. A good football mind is definitely worth having around.

We had RAS creator Kent Lee Platte on for a mock draft a couple weeks back and he absolutely raved about this kid being a possible late round pick for the Lions. He's another guy that has a lot of grit and has come back from multiple injuries. sadly those injuries might prevent him from getting drafted. He could be a real dark horse to make a 53 man roster.

Another linebacker for the Lions. This is one that they've actually shown some interest in too. They had a formal meeting with him at the combine. Casey is a good project for the Lions and could be a guy that makes the practice squad.

Speaking of projects. Matos is a giant 6-foot-8 and 290 pound project. The former basketball player from the Dominican Republic has never played a snap of football, yet he's getting a ton of interest from NFL teams. It's hard to believe that any team is going to draft him, but it's not hard to believe that a team would take him on as a project. Especially since you can use a 17th practice squad spot on an International Pathways player.

Here's another giant of an offensive lineman. He's 6-foot-7 and 350 pounds. He is also a former basketball player, but at least Manu has played football in Canada. A lot of teams have interest in him as well and the Lions are one of them. They had him in for a top-30 visit. The lack of experience might hurt his ability to get drafted. If it does, the Lions should hop on him.

I don't think there's a chance that Murphy goes undrafted, but if he does, the Lions need to be his first call. This is another guy that has a shot to crack the 53-man roster. He's a great athlete and good speed. The problem is that he's kind of raw and needs work. New Lions defensive line Terrell Williams would be a good guy to help him with that.

Another quarterback to watch out for. The draw here is that Slovis is just 22-years-old. He is someone that needs a lot of work, but the Lions have time to do that work with Slovis hanging around the practice squad. Maybe in a few years you have something there. If not, not a lot was lost.

Gould is super fast and is a good return man. The drawback is that he's just 5-foot-8 and 174 pounds. That's going to hurt his draft stock. But whatever team picks him up has a potential kick and punt returner that could do some real damage.

A local kid who's name you might be familiar with. Oghoufo was big at Harrison High School in Harrison, Michigan. He was one of the best players in the state before heading to Texas. He transferred to LSU and made an impact there.

The Lions had him in for their local pro day, so there's some interest there.
